R

etirement is a word not in the vocabulary of senior adults who are seeking to serve their Lord. Work schedules may be rearranged when we reach a certain age. Changes in monthly paychecks may reflect these new work schedules. One senior even stated, "I’ve now gone on a ‘low-salary diet!’"

Some may see these days of "retirement" as a time when we are limited by a smaller income, or when we have been "put on the shelf" as far as society is concerned. An older child of God will not look at just the negatives of change in income and usefulness, but will see this as a time when new and exciting opportunities will arise.

We can take our encouragement from the account of Caleb as he entered the Promised Land. He gave God the credit for keeping him alive and in good health during their 40-plus years in the wilderness.  At this time he didn’t ask for an easy inheritance, but instead asked for the hill country where the giants lived. At 85 years of age he was still excited to see how God would work in his life.  Senior adults at First Baptist Church, Kings Mountain, have numerous opportunities to continue our service to the Heavenly Father and to continue to learn from Him as we fellowship with each other .

Golden Fellowship

for senior adults is a volunteer organization, formed mainly for fellowship, even though service opportunities abound here. We meet for a noon covered dish lunch every second Tuesday.  Each time, we have special programs that are of interest to Senior Adults. On the other Tuesday mornings at 10:00, several seniors who enjoy singing, meet together as The King’s Chorus. Special trips are planned through the year as well as an annual  Bible Study Retreat at Myrtle Beach. This retreat is scheduled for Nov. 30 - Dec. 2, in ‘09.

Our senior adults are not the kind that are easily "put on the shelf." You will find them working throughout our church and community. They encourage our younger members by their example in godly service.
